Messages in Intermittent non-starting when clutch depressed
<< Return to General Questions / Comments
I have 1999 SC1. Yesterday it just would not start when clutch was depressed and key turned - no cranking at all. Tow-truck driver tried it and it worked!! (I am not female!!). Drove to another couple of destinations and it was fine - same thing happened again after a couple of stops. Waited 15 minutes, it cranked again. Does anyone have any ideas????

I might be having a similar problem,,,I suspect my problem is due to a malfunction in the security system. There is a "safegard" when an incorrect key is tried in the ignition that will not allow the engine to fire. Funny thing is, I AM using the correct car key. The past few days it has taken me 15-20 min to start my car b/c I have to do a lot of locking and unlocking to re-set the security system so the @#@$$ thing will fire up. Still trying to figure out if I can disable the blasted security system. Anyone have ideas?!?!

I have noticed the same problem. I have a 2003 ION. Every once in a while, when I depress the clutch and turn the key it doesn't start. I have learned that if I wait ten minutes something resets and I can start the car fine. I have noticed no other problems until a couple of weeks ago when my airbag light started coming on and staying on. I assume these are electrical issues because I haven't seen the airbag light since. The wierd clutch thing has been happening for years. I assume that some sensor is tripped when I push the clutch and key at a certain time or a certain way. I does always seem to happen when I'm in a hurry!
